About the Role

This position offers the opportunity to help build on the aspirations of our current strategic plan: to be a nationally recognized dance organization, creating a sustainable home for artistic excellence and providing diverse programming for Philadelphia audiences.

The Production Manager functions as the Performance Garage’s advance point of contact for all technical related needs including: video and audio file assembly, lighting pre-cueing and design, and facilitating over-hire as needed. The PM is responsible for operation of lighting, audio and video control for all technical rehearsals and performances. This position is also charged with general oversight, upkeep and forward-minded upgrades of the performance facilities within the building infrastructure and coordination with outside maintenance and repair contractors if required.

The PM works with a great deal of independence and exercises independent judgment in performing a wide variety of duties, however, you will be communicating on an ongoing basis with the Rental & Marketing Managers and with the other Performance Garage administrative staff as needed.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

● Direct operation and oversight of all technical elements of dance performances and rehearsal spaces.
● Sets up, maintains and operates lighting, sound and video systems.
● Maintains inventory and orders specialized supplies in coordination with Rental and Marketing
Managers
● Attending production meetings to communicate with representatives from the production rental
and determining the necessary technical requirements prior to performance, such as lighting, sound, video, staging and special needs, to best serve the production and ensure compliance with rules and safety requirements.
● Troubleshoots any technical problems and/or house problems during performances
● Communicating complex technical and lighting design ideas to choreographers who may or may not have technical knowledge, both before and during technical rehearsals.
● Prepares theater before shows and ensures that each space is ready for classes and rehearsals aer production rentals.
● Collects number of participants (directors, performers, support staff, etc.) and audience members (adults and under 18) for each performance.
An ideal candidate for this position will possess the following
● Full knowledge of video, sound and lighting (Proficient in QLab audio and video [ver. 5], analog audio consoles (Mackie), and ETC ION programming and operation) Google Suite, Adobe Suite and iOS processing system are also necessary.
● Design experience is recommended, especially in lighting and video
● Experience in dance production is required; experience in stage management is helpful. The
position will require you to learn choreography quickly for the purpose of being able to run
cues.
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to write clearly
and persuasively.
● Excellent project management & analytical skills.
● Ability to attend to numerous projects concurrently and prioritize accordingly.
● The PM is expected to be available for all production rentals. If you find you have outside
commitments it is your responsibility to find a qualified replacement for yourself.

Because of the nature of production rentals, hours are varied and can vary as much as between 25-85 hours a month. In addition to production hours, staff meetings occur weekly for 2 hours, and monthly maintenance hours are provided. Position is paid hourly: $28/hr; overtime after 8 hours daily, 40 hours weekly as well as employer-provided health benefit stipend at conclusion of three months of employment. Pay commensurate on experience.

About the Company

Performance Garage, a non-profit dance center and theater, is in its 24th year of serving the Philadelphia dance community whose mission is to create an environment that nurtures dance artists and facilitates the building of a broader audience for dance in Philadelphia. We serve approximately twenty thousand people per year. As an incubator and hub for local dance talent, the Performance Garage offers subsidized rental rates for artists to host their classes, workshops, rehearsals, and performances, as well as a free after-school dance program for youth.
