BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Victor F. Keen
Board President,
Co-Founder
Victor Keen is the Co-Founder & Board President of the Performance Garage, and an avid supporter of the arts. Along with his wife, choreographer and dancer Jeanne Ruddy, Victor purchased the Performance Garage in 2000, and helped to oversee its transformation from an abandoned auto-body shop into the vibrant center for dance that it is today. As a founding member of the Board of Jeanne Ruddy Dance, Victor supported the company during its entire 12 year run, and was instrumental in the organization’s transition to an arts service organization following the company’s final season. In addition to his work with the Performance Garage, Victor is a devoted advocate for the arts in Philadelphia and beyond. He served on the Boards and Executive Committees of the highly regarded Kimmel Center and Philadelphia Theatre Company, and on the Board of PlayPenn, Inc., which supports new play development. Victor also owns the Bethany Mission Gallery, a repurposed church/mission adjacent to the Performance Garage, and originally built by Philadelphia Quakers in 1869. The gallery houses Victor’s extensive collection of outsider art, vintage radios, toasters and toys, and is one of the world’s largest private collections of outsider art. Millie Lane Berg
Millie Lane Berg has supported Jeanne Ruddy Dance since its inception, serving on the Board of the company and the Performance Garage for twenty years. A graduate of Agnes Scott College near Atlanta, the State University of Iowa, and Bank Street College in New York, Millie spent her childhood years in Clemson, South Carolina where her father was an English and Drama professor. A love of literature was instilled early in a house full of books, with a grandmother who quoted nursery rhymes and classics, and a mother who was a poet. Without the distraction of television, much time was spent inventing games, playing in the woods, recording speeches on a wire recorder with her father, and having dances on the back porch. Millie retired in Fall 2013 from the Community College of Philadelphia where she helped to start the Early Childhood Education program in 1973 and taught such courses as Children’s Literature, Infant and Toddler Development, Curriculum Through Play for preschool children, and Emergent Language. Current interests include involvement with two daughters and four grandchildren in the Philadelphia area, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, and with the church’s newly founded institution for children in North Philadelphia, the St. James School. Millie also recently served as the moderator for the National Museum of Jewish History's panel: Children's Literature and Social Justice featuring illustrators Jerry Pinkney, Bryan Collier, and Patrick Rogers of the Sendak collection at the Rosenbach Museum. Millie is a life-long supporter of dance and theater, and she fervently supports the Performance Garage as a community venue for dance instructors, adults, and children. Movement and dance were integral to her training in speech and dramatic art. She attributes a love of dance performance to the may day dell experiences at Agnes Scott and supernumerary opportunity with the Agnes De Mille Dance Company, and watching her own parents dance.
Toni Jelinek
I’m a fairly recent transplant to the Philadelphia area. I lived in the Midwest, most recently Minneapolis, and moved here in 2015 to be closer to my son and his family. Dance has always been a part of my life. I studied dance and performed locally when I was young, but my education led me in a different direction. I have a business and IT background and have held management positions, including that of Chief Information Officer, in both the private sector and the public sector. Community involvement has also been an important part of my life and I have found ways to work with organizations that make better communities. In Minneapolis, I was a member of the Women of Influence Giving Circle, a donor advised fund of the Women’s Foundation of Minnesota and I served as a Board member for Prairie Oaks Institute at Robert Creek. I also spent 3 years as a Commissioner on the Housing and Redevelopment Authority for the City of Plymouth, Minnesota. In Philadelphia, I recently served as Board president for Weavers Way Food Coop. But I still love to be around dance and dancers. In the Midwest, I was a director on the Boards of Young Audiences of Minnesota, Tapestry Folkdance Center and ARENA Dances, a modern dance company with a 20 year history in the Twin cities. I am delighted to serve on the Board of the Performance Garage.
