SHARP Dance Company blends classic dance technique with intriguing stories that speak to the human experience, which creates an artistic experience that is relatable to all audiences.
“SHARP Dance Company is quickly becoming recognized for their combination of inspired artistry, imagination capturing “stories of performance” and the discipline required of such performance mastery.”
-Barry Livingston Arts Spider Arts Scene, NH.
SHARP Dance Company has been touring nationally and internationally for the past 10 years. SHARP has performed in over 30 cities in the U.S. such as: New York, Rochester, Phoenix, Chicago, Cincinnati, Portland, San Diego, Brooklyn, Boulder and Portsmouth, among others. The company was selected as one of 11 artists worldwide to the BAU Institute in Italy for a two-week artist residency and was selected for a two-week residency in Paros, Greece, which inspired their original work “The Garden Tour”. SHARP has also performed in England as part of the BedFringe.
SHARP is known for collaborative and social conscious work. Some of our former collaborators include: guest choreographers Steven Vaughn (former Parsons Dance Company member), Kevin Ferguson (former Parsons Dance Company member and Doug Elkins Dance Company), Joe Cotler (Koresh Dance Company), Charles Tyson (Underground Dance Works) and more. SHARP has also worked with Kylene Cleaver (Photographer), Lauren Mandilian Huot (Projection Artist) and Composers Liliya Danieva (Russia) and J (Philadelphia).
The mission of SHARP Dance Co. is to translate raw human emotion utilizing contemporary movement to connect the audience through individual interpretation. SHARP is a twelve-year-old 501(c)(3) modern dance company and its theory of “meaning behind movement” is shown prominently throughout their work. SHARP feels that dance should be more than a performance it should be an experience.
“SHARP’s choreography was Graham-grand with Horton punctuation marks brought into an exciting contemporary expression.”
