Barbara Lember began dance when she was 4. She studied dance and performed with Hedy Tower (Wigman-based technique) through her teen years. While attending the Philadelphia Museum College of Art (now University of the Arts), Barbara Lember joined the Graham-based Terez Nelson Dance Company. She performed as a lead dancer for eight years. During this time she also studied at the Martha Graham School in New York City. She then joined and performed with Gruppe Motion Berlin (now known as Group Motion Dance Company) under the direction of Helmut Fricke Gottschild, Brigitta Herman and Manfred Fischbeck. In addition to participating in individual workshops and classes, Barbara has studied Pilates with Karen Carlson for many years. Ms. Lember has taught modern dance for over 40 years. Her teaching experience includes Bryn Mawr College (1968-77), local art and dance centers. She also developed and teaches Form & Function, a program that incorporates both Pilates mat work and modern dance. Barbara has been teaching Pilates mat classes in both small group and private sessions for more than 10 years.
