Dancefusion, Philadelphia's dynamic modern dance repertory company, will present Elemental Forces, exploring the fundamental forces that bring us together and the classic elements that support life (Earth, Water, Fire and Air). Two guest companies will join our program, Grounded Aerial and Jim Bunting Dance Company. Our program will feature Dancefusion in four powerful works: "Songs" (1956) by Mary Anthony, "Weathervane" by Janet Pilla Marini, "Waterwise" by Jennifer Yackel, and a new work, "Isolated Textures" by Masad Qawishabazz. Grounded Aerial will present "Infinity ??" by Karen A. Fuhrman. Jim Bunting Dance Company will present "Surrender" by Jim Bunting.
Elemental Forces will feature the revival of "Songs" (1956) by pioneer choreographer Mary Anthony. "Songs," inspired by William Blake's collection of poetry, Songs of Experience, is one of Mary Anthony’s greatest works about love. "Weathervane" by Assistant Director Janet Pilla Marini is a pure movement work that encompasses space like currents of wind. "Waterwise," by accomplished local choreographer Jennifer Yackel, who recently joined the Dancefusion Company, explores the primal nature and strength of femininity using the icon of Sirens from Greek mythology as inspiration. The bold new work on our program is "Isolated Textures," by guest choreographer Masad Qawishabazz, which explores the process of movement as it relates to isolations, understanding what is leading and questioning how it feels. Dancers move the air around them and, motivated by these feelings, follow the movement on its many pathways.
Dancefusion will present guest company Grounded Aerial’s "Infinity ??". Choreographed by Artistic Director and Founder, Karen A. Fuhrman, this piece investigates human-made time and endlessness, our togetherness and isolation, and all the everything in-between. Additional guest company, Jim Bunting Dance Company, will present "Surrender," a work about letting go of the struggle of past rivalries, those who have hurt us and the pain we endure in the process.
