thINKingDANCE is a consortium of dance artists and writers who work together to provide critical coverage for dance, to build audiences for dance, and to foster the art of dance writing. Based in Philadelphia, thINKingDANCE increases visibility for local dance, encourages new forms of dance writing, broadens the scope of dance coverage in our city, and increases audience receptivity to dance. We do this through live events and through our online dance journal. We train and educate our writers through regular workshops with visiting dance writers, monthly peer-critique sessions, and a uniquely rigorous two-tiered editing process. Founded in 2011, thINKingDANCE is currently thirty writers strong.

choreoBASH Fundraiser & Dance Party

Thursday, November 2, 2017

7:00 pm–9:00 pm

$20 and up

thINKingDANCE is six years old, so we’re throwing a party—and, naturally, it’s a dance party. Join us for choreoBASH, our birthday fundraiser celebrating everything that makes Philly’s performance scene noteworthy: innovative performers, engaged audiences, and memorable post-show chats.

Boogie, join us for a drink, offer a donation, and (here’s the best part) learn a brief dance from some of Philly’s most talented artists: Matthew Neenan, Jumatatu Poe, and Amy Smith. In the style of Belgium’s Bal Moderne, we’re inviting three brilliant choreographers to teach quick, fun dances throughout the night. No pressure to kick high or whip out a perfect pirouette—this movement is for all people of all abilities. We just wanna throw off our shoes and have a good time with you, our biggest fans.

Lindsay Browning and Scott McPheeters co-host as quirky, dance-loving characters “Phyllis and Phil,” and we will honor Terri Shockley for her lifetime achievement and contributions to Philadelphia dance.

Help us reach our $6,000 goal. Ticket prices begin at $20, but the more you give, the more you help. choreoBASH is our only fundraiser in 2017, so don't hold back!
